21 April, 2010.INQ Mini 3G

For roughly a week Matthew Hoare of Matthew Hoare’s Journal has been in possession of an INQ Mini and he has posted a review on the handset.

Overall he takes the rough with the smooth, noting good integration of apps, but finding them too basic. He made use of the Twitter and Facebook apps most seeing as these are services he uses on his regular device. An example of what he saw as short-comings would be the display of status updates from Facebook on the INQ Mini,

“Peoples names are in the same font style as the statuses. Therefore it’s hard to distinguish between the names and the actual statuses. Perhaps having names in bold would improve it. Maybe this is just me being picky.”

He was however more impressed with the navigation through the user interface of the phone,

“On the side of the phone there is a scroll function where you can scroll through your apps, which works well. You can use the scroll whilst in the apps to change between the tools and apps you looking for, which I thought was quite useful.”

This also tied in with the overall aesthetics of the device, the bright and vibrant styling of the menus and especially the red back.

So what did a week with the INQ Mini teach Matthew?

“I think this phone is aimed at the younger teenage market, which I think this phone would be perfect for as its compact and lightweight, therefore perfect for teenagers to catch up on with their friends when they are out and about.”

Do you agree? Leave Matthew a comment on his site.

3 March, 2010.HTC Hero Handsets Spotify

We’ve had some lovely ladies testing the HTC Hero over the past couple of weeks.

Vikki (@vikkichowney) of The Really Mobile Project, Natasha (@natashabailie), Carrie (@wishwishwish), Amy (@wolfwhistle) and Frankie (@swellvintage) have all tried out the phone on 3.

The general consensus so far has been very positive, although the Hero did take some getting used to by all, mainly due to the touch screen and its being constantly online.

The camera on it seemed to go down well, with Frankie using it to post pictures from the day at London Fashion Weekend. But will it help make up Vikki’s mind as to whether she needs a Hero? Or will the Spotify subscription included help seal the deal?

Check out all their posts to see their thoughts on the phone and ask them any questions about their time with the Hero.

As reported over the past couple of weeks, we provided 8 fashion addicts with HTC Heros and INQ Chat 3Gs so they could report from the catwalk for free to celebrate 3 offering free Twitter throughout February & March.

The girls took full advantage of the offer and tweeted profusely all day long. Check out #FreeTwitteron3 for a review of the day, from what’s on trend in Spring / Summer 2010 to who bought what (and a lot of buying was done!)

The girls really enjoyed the phones they were using, Natasha (@natashabailie) said of the Hero:

“I was given a HTC Hero phone, which took some getting used to, but if you like gadgets and nifty handheld devices then you will love the (super) Hero phone on 3mobile.”

Whilst half the girls had HTC Heros, the other half had INQ Chat 3Gs which went down a storm with Fiona of SaveOurShoes, a self-confessed technophobe:

“I got to play around with an INQ Mobile for a bit. And now, I am addicted to tweeting, twitpicing and being a general nuisance.”

Check out Ellie (PrettyMuchPenniless) & Frankie (SwellVintage)’s blogs for their round up of the day and have a look at #FreeTwitteron3 to see what Lindsey (@Be_Gorgeous), Katie (@katietheunicorn), Carrie (@wishwishwish) and Amy (@wolfwhistle) also made of it – I’ve been told more blog posts will be coming soon so keep an eye out for them also.

So the final 8 have been chosen and everyone’s pretty hyped about tweeting for free from the catwalk tomorrow at London Fashion Weekend!

@swellvintage @natashabailie @wolfwhistle and @wishwishwish are all using HTC Heros to tweet from and @katietheunicorn @Be_Gorgeous @SaveOurShoes and @ellietweeter are using INQ Chat 3Gs to keep their communities updated from the catwalk.

Follow them on Saturday to find out what they’ve been doing and what amazing stuff they’ve been seeing.

@nechbi from mypocketOS has also been spreading the word about Free Twitter on 3 throughout February and March, and makes a good point that “if you haven’t used Twitter before, now is a good opportunity to try it out for free.” So why not have a go?!

Two of the winners have been announced!

Natasha (@natashabailie) and Frankie (@swellvintage) have chosen their +1s to bring along to London Fashion Weekend on Saturday. Lindsey (@Be_Gorgeous) and Fiona (@SaveOurShoes) are the 2 lucky winners who will be joining us on Saturday.

Amy (@wolfwhistle) and Carrie’s (@wishwishwish) +1s are still to be decided. If you want to be in with a chance of joining them, pop over to their twitter feeds and twitpic them something that you think proves that “the best things in life are free”.

All 8, will be tweeting for free from the catwalk to make the most of 3’s offering free Twitter throughout February & March. They will be using either an HTC Hero or an INQ Chat 3G. These phones are new to the girls, so if anyone has any hints & tips for them, make sure to let them know.

15 October, 2009.Misc.

Last night the great and good of the technology industry gathered to celebrate what has been an excellent year in the world of gadgets.

After a champagne reception guests made their way to their tables in the grand hall. Each table was furnished with details of a twitter competition, which immediately induced an eerie silence as attendees tried to come up with the funniest/most sycophantic tweet to clinch the prize of a Smartphone.

Alongside members of the 3 team and the 3mobilebuzz guys we were joined by @bensmithuk and @adonisdemon who launched into the twitter competition with aplomb:

“Main course finished, is there dessert? When is the show getting started? I’m ready to jump on stage!”

The evening’s host Johnny Vaughan broke the silence in his own inimitable style – his opening joke, “my grandfather may have been a bitter, selfish, violent and angry man…but he loved a gadget” set the tone for the rest of his evening’s work. (more…)

9 October, 2009.Handsets INQ

Today sees the launch of the INQ Mini 3G on 3UK. There’s already been plenty of chatter and overviews of the device that is available in 3 stores, online and over the phone.

Engadget Mobile has an extensive review with a picture gallery and video of the Mini in action. Trusted Reviews also has a video showing the depth of the device’s social-networking integration. Other sites that have covered the new INQ on the block are Electricpig, MobileChoice and Tech65, so be sure to give them all the once over.

The official side of the launch can all be found at the 3 media centre, with details on features and tariffs, along with a quote from Charlotte Blanchard, 3’s director of products and services,

“We’re committed to making the Mobile Internet affordable and easy to use for consumers. That applies whether they’re using Skype to call their mates in Australia, or retweeting Perez Hilton’s latest bit of showbiz gossip on Twitter. Our goal is to offer consumers the best Mobile Internet experience, and INQ’s new products are a key part of that story.”

28 September, 2009.Handsets INQ

Review site Trusted Reviews have taken a look at the INQ Mini 3G and given it an overall score of 8/10.

As fans of the INQ1, Trusted Reviews and in particular reviewer Edward Chester is keen to see what the Mini offers. Although he finds faults with certain aspects of the phone, notably the camera and the viewing of full web pages, overall the device satisfies,

“it’s far too low on features for those that want a true mobile web experience and it’s a bit complicated for those that just want a simple cheap phone. However, if you can’t afford the former and just want to make sure you’re never out of the social loop, then you should definitely consider this phone.”

Spread across three pages is Electricpig’s review of the INQ Mini 3G.

“The social networking mobile is back in a new, smaller, faster, pumped up guise. Called the INQ Mini 3G, it adds Twitter and a 3G internet connection to a smaller package. But is it any good? Read our INQ Mini 3G review and we’ll give you our verdict.”

And true to their word that is exactly what they do! Comparisons are made with the INQ1, a device they refer to as breakthrough, and therefore expectations are high. Regardless of this the INQ Mini fares well. The only minor gripes are in relation to only packing in a 2-megapixel camera and the need for an adaptor to use headphones, which seems odd considering the phone’s young target audience.

Nevertheless Electricpig believes, “If you’re after the functionality of a smart phone on a budget, look no further.”

11 August, 2009.INQ1 Misc.

Jennifer Martinez at GigaOm has written on the ‘match made in heaven’ that is mobile handsets and social networks.

However, a report published by Forrester suggests only 2.3 percent of Europeans use their mobiles to interact via social networks. Listed in the report are five ways this figure could be boosted, and as Jennifer states, they’re fairly obvious, but devices still lack them. Click through and see if you agree.

The INQ1 baulked this trend by being built around Facebook, with successful returns – 65 percent of INQ1 users access Facebook via the handset on a daily basis. It’s only a matter of time before handset manufacturers and social-networks alike realise the common goal of getting people communicating and start *’following’ suit.

The guys over at The Really Mobile Project have raided their sources and come up with the goods,

“Exclusive: It looks like ’social mobile’ firm INQ’s Battersea offices have been overrun with excited staffers trying out the firm’s latest handset this week, as the previously-confirmed new handsets near launch.”

Ok, it may not have been the sources and more good Google searching, but either way it looks like the INQ2, or eagerly awaited ‘Twitter Phone’ as it has become known, maybe close…
