Spread across three pages is Electricpig’s review of the INQ Mini 3G.

“The social networking mobile is back in a new, smaller, faster, pumped up guise. Called the INQ Mini 3G, it adds Twitter and a 3G internet connection to a smaller package. But is it any good? Read our INQ Mini 3G review and we’ll give you our verdict.”

And true to their word that is exactly what they do! Comparisons are made with the INQ1, a device they refer to as breakthrough, and therefore expectations are high. Regardless of this the INQ Mini fares well. The only minor gripes are in relation to only packing in a 2-megapixel camera and the need for an adaptor to use headphones, which seems odd considering the phone’s young target audience.

Nevertheless Electricpig believes, “If you’re after the functionality of a smart phone on a budget, look no further.”

The Skypephone S3 is on the horizon and heading quickly toward us, set to be arriving by the end of the year. ITProPortal have, in accordance with this announcement, offered five things that they believe will make the phone fly.

First up is a touchscreen, followed by a ‘usable’ keyboard, “A keyboard, whether physical or onscreen, is essential for the S2 Skypephone’s continuing success, especially if it wants to continue down the social media route.”

Suggestions three and four are the camera and the plan on which 3 puts the phone. The camera, ITProPortal feel, must be upgraded to 5-megapixel and have a flash. Point five is a little catch-all and I’ll leave you to click through and read their musings on wifi, microSD cards and more thoughts on the tariff. Thoughts that ITProPortal believe will make the S3 a ‘hands-down winner’.

This news has percolated fairly well by now, in the lively sense of the word obviously, no slow brewing here. So what do we know? It’s out on the 18th of August around the price point of ÂŁ69.99, and is the blockbusting continuation of the franchise started by the original 3 Skypephone device. It looks like this:

s2.jpg

And is comprised of plenty of upgrades from the the previous model.

- Size: 103 x 45 x 14mm

- Display: 2.2in QVGA screen

- Battery: 1150 mAh

- Memory on board: 50mb

- Memory card type: Micro SD up to 4GB

- HSDPA: 3.6

- Camera: 3.2MP

It has also got built in drivers, so hooking it up to your laptop and dongle-izing it is a breeze and, intriguingly, you’ll be able to get your email on it, with 3’s new facility to have consumer mail pushed to your handset, whatever its spec. And naturally there is the integrated functionality of Skype.

So what does everyone think? As I said, there is plenty of ‘buzz’ and what follows are links to some of it. Phones Review, Pocket-Lint, The 3G blog, Xeo-Tech (nice comparison to Ford’s Model-T), Sipy who quotes Tamebay’s Chris Dawson, Stuff.tv, Skype Journal also goes with a Dawson quote and finally we’ll finish with Fudzilla. So, with those out of the way, what are your thoughts on the prospect of the Skypephone S2? Let us know.

To the joyous tones of Soulja Boy comes a brief but enlightening review of the original 3 Skypephone courtesy of PSPro1337 on YouTube. All we see of PSPro1337 (or ‘1337’ to his friends) is his left ear, but luckily his narration more than makes up for the lack of face.

He mentions the fact that the Skypephone is 3G, has Skype and is able to send MSN messages, but the video really comes alive when 1337 recommends the phone “If you love playing music really loud”, hopefully not at the back of a bus on the way to Lidl. 1337 is also fascinated by the multitasking button spending a fair amount of the review showing how to use it. The Skypephone’s 2MP camera “ain’t bad”, as 1337 reckons that quality of it “is good for 2 megapixels”. Head over to listen to 1337’s dulcet-toned review.

Anthony D at The World of Enigmatic 1 has posted his thoughts on the ever-popular 3 Skypephone, mentioning how though it is available on contract, it is on pay as you go “that this phone really does shine.”

After a brief rundown of its major features, in which Anthony mentions that, although the 2 megapixel doesn’t have a flash or secondary camera for conference calls, it’s “not really important” as he has never made a conference call on a 3G phone anyway, he says he finds the menu “very easy” to navigate and the screen is easy to read in most lighting conditions. The major selling point though, writes Anthony, is the built in Skype client which enables the user to make free Skype to Skype calls and instant messages.

Anthony is also impressed with the new PAYG tariffs, as you “can convert the money on the phone into a Stretch bundle which gives you an amount of units to use as calls or texts”. Head over to read the full review.

Lenfirewood of Flickr has been experimenting not just with his 3 Skypephone 2MP camera, but with some after effects also. It is fair to say he’s quite the dab hand.

You may have seen his images filtering through into the 3mobilebuzz latest photos stream. Lenfirewood has been using GIMP and picnik to adjust colours, get in some vignetting and layer up multiple images, and the results are impressive. Not bad at all by any stretch, and clearly demonstrates the possibilities of the 3 Skypephone camera combined with some photo editing know how. It is also good to see the handset and camera referred to positively in his profile, explaining that the device serves as a great way to keep connected to friends and family across the globe and that the camera performs beyond his expectations.

The two images below are from Lenfirewood’s Flickr account, which you can visit here.

Gadgetspeak have given the 3 Skypephone a nicely detailed rundown; in the first half of the article, author mfereday describes the ergonomics of the Skypephone, then follows with a guide to what happens when you switch the phone on. How to log in or sign up to Skype is then covered, and the way to navigate the application, after which mfereday declares “I was reasonably impressed with the Skype capabilities of this phone”, highlighting the ease of use and the free calls to other Skype users.

Mfereday moves on to describe the methods of surfing the web through Planet 3, using MSN, Facebook, Ebay etc and a list of the various applications the phone itself contains. When addressing the camera, mfereday is not too fussed, but writes “you do get reasonable images within the 2 megapixel limitation”. He also finds the insertion of the SIM card to be slightly awkward, but ends by saying “I found the Skypephone to be a well-featured and useful device. I shall miss it when the company recalls my review unit.” Read the full length review at Gadgetspeak.

Check out ITProPortal.com for an extensive eight-page investigation into the 3 Skypephone, written by Desire Athow. Desire certainly goes in to depth, beginning with a quick catch up on its history: “It was the first phone which allowed you to make VoIP calls out of the box without any hacks and with the explicit approval of the service provider.”

Making note of the smallness of the 3 Skypephone, she carries on “It feels fairly sturdy and much slimmer than your average mobile phone”, mentions that the firmware can be updated from version 18 and how it can accept MicroSD cards of up to 1GB. She likes the screen, stating “The colours are vibrant and good enough to watch a few short movies”, but is concerned over the ease with which the screen scatches.

Desire doesn’t think too much of the 2 MP camera “Don’t expect miracles though as the camera struggles to deliver quality photos under low light conditions with an excess of noise” and wonders why there is no front facing camera for video conferences but is impressed by the sound quality. After a shortlist of 10 issues she had with the 3 Skypephone, Desire concludes “The Skypephone is not the ideal phone but it is certainly the cheapest way to access Skype and MSN messenger on the move; and does it in style.” Check out the full review at ITProPortal.com.

Ben Smith of SMS Text News has been skiing and has fully informed everyone, through the power of a blog entry, of his gadgetry themed escapades while away carving edges and putting his rear on chair-lifts.

Featuring among the many devices that feature is the 3 Skypephone, Ben’s choice for accompanying him out on the peaks. A selection he made because “it’s a great-sized handset with a decent camera for pictures on the slopes and USB charging means no proprietary adapter is required. Also at ÂŁ50 I won’t be too distressed if it’s damaged.”

Those of you who take an interest in such things will have noted 3mobilebuzz’s very own Flickr roll updating rapidly recently. This all down to the photo-go-go work of Paul and Aline, extremely active members of the photo-sharing community.

pa1.jpg

Since purchasing the 3 Skypephone (a moment captured above), the device has had it’s camera shutter well and truly exercised, on the beach, at the airport and in the home. I’ve included a couple of the best and should you want to immerse yourself in the Paul and Aline AMOI WP S1 experience further you can, see them all here.

pink-3-skypephone.jpgAdam Caitlin has written on the 3 Skypephone and it seems that it’s variation of pink is quite a hit, “Pink colour has its own appeal. It signifies anything that is beautiful and valuable. And hence the fact that the 3 Skypephone is available in the colour pink is like divine providence.”

Once Adam gets past the joy of pink, he delivers his review of the device mentioning all the important details, Skype, 2MP camera, music player, web-browsing, bluetooth and so forth. It is all the features that lead Adam to his conclusion, a conclusion that contains his final mention of the pink detailing on his handset, “All these features combined together make the pink 3 Skypephone a very dependable gadget.”

Feature-laden, dependable and pink. What more could you want?

Ciaran Moore of CiaranMoore.blogspot.com has been getting involved with the 3 Skypephone for a few months and has just posted his thoughts in an article titled “This Is Cool”.

ciaran-moore.jpg

A man preoccupied with style, his attention first falls on the look of the device, which he commends using a selection of words including nice, simple, comfortable and solid. That box checked, he moves on to the functionality. Despite having some frustrations getting the Skype connection as consistent as it should be, Ciaran was impressed, especially with some of the other features that the 3 Skypephone offers. Mostly this revolved around enjoying the 2MP camera for its “social-snapping” abilities, and being able to use Windows Messenger to instant message whilst on the move.

And what of the Skype Revolution? “Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had a 3 Skypephone, so we would be able to rid the world of costly communication. That day will come, people.”

This isn’t just any Ninja however, this is London Ninja and they’ve been using the 3 Skypephone to call home.

ninja.jpg

Although named deceptively, all part of being a Ninja I guess, London Ninja is in fact from California with the ‘London’ part of the name only referencing location rather than any heritage, the tricky devil. In an effort to keep up communication with all their presumably stealthy friends out west, they have been using Skype. Therefore, when the opportunity arose to replace a previous mobile with the new 3 Skypephone, it was taken with glee.

With 3 Skypephone in hand, the London Ninja is particularly happy snapping away with the camera and utilising the mp3 player. Add to this the Skype functionality and there is only one thing they have left to say about the device – “It’s worth every pence, mi laddy.”

After the good work of a few eager photographers, notably Nechbi and Sue from Tamebay, 3mobilebuzz has taken their lead, headed to the hills and snapped like a hungry crocodile at an overcrowded water buffalo pass.

I’ve included a rather excellent image of flower doused with raindrops (we were concerned with avoiding cliches), if you follow this green text to our Flickr account there is some more of the same, plus some photographs taken by a member of the 3mobilebuzz flock while in Poland recently.

‘SEO Expert – Adam Ok’ has been testing out the 3 Skypephone’s 2 megapixel camera. Although the camera does not feature a flash light, something that he feels hampers the phone in low light conditions, he believes that “shots taken in bright light conditions come out quite good.”

There are couple of the pictures he has taken below and there are more here.
