3 SIM and N900
With the release earlier today of the latest firmware for the N900 (PR1.1) it is now possible to use 3UK SIM cards with the phone. This has been one of the hot topics around the N900 and has been on the high priority fix list for Nokia.
Gerrymoth reported the news that the change log for the new firmware fixed the problem, the news was excitedly passed on by EricSeale.
“N900 Firmware PR1.1 supports 3uk sims and should make mfe with google work. Let’s see if it does?”
Kbatic has given it a go, and is happy to report that it works:
“#n900 updated to latest firmware and now my 3uk sim works. Yay!”
News I’m sure that benjezzy will be interested in hearing as the lack of 3UK support was the main thing stopping him from getting an N900.
Given it a go yourself? Get in touch and let us know how you got on.

I had problems with my 3 SIM when I bought the phone in December. The firmware update released by Nokia on 15 January 2010 fixed the problem, and now I can move the 3 SIM from E71. Until this point, I had needed a second PAYG SIM.

Nice to see things happening so at least you could use an n900 on 3uk. Now for 3 itself to offer the phone would be interesting. Though I am loving my n86, i have a keen interest in the n900 and hope it does well.

Hi Aaron, 3’s Director of Devices Nigel Field has posted today on 3’s blog about the handset range and the choices 3 make about what phones to stock: http://bit.ly/asFzxV He also mentions Apple in there…
3’s always said that they have to balance great mobile internet experiences with good value when it comes to their handset range, but they do have a big push on smartphones this year.
Cheers, M
