Three Mobile Buzz
T3 Gadget Awards Roundup
15 October, 2009.Misc.

Last night the great and good of the technology industry gathered to celebrate what has been an excellent year in the world of gadgets.

After a champagne reception guests made their way to their tables in the grand hall. Each table was furnished with details of a twitter competition, which immediately induced an eerie silence as attendees tried to come up with the funniest/most sycophantic tweet to clinch the prize of a Smartphone.

Alongside members of the 3 team and the 3mobilebuzz guys we were joined by @bensmithuk and @adonisdemon who launched into the twitter competition with aplomb:

“Main course finished, is there dessert? When is the show getting started? I’m ready to jump on stage!”

The evening’s host Johnny Vaughan broke the silence in his own inimitable style – his opening joke, “my grandfather may have been a bitter, selfish, violent and angry man…but he loved a gadget” set the tone for the rest of his evening’s work.

Michael Brook, editor of T3 Magazine had the mixed blessing of presenting the awards alongside Johnny. He did an admirable job in the face of near constant interruptions from the big man – it can’t be easy sharing a stage with a broadcasting legend, but Michael did himself proud.

Noteworthy winners of the evening included Spotify for Innovation of the Year and Canon for Camera of the Year. Also, both Apple Mac Book Pro and HTC Hero “did the double”. Apple Mac Book Pro won Drop Dead Gorgeous Gadget of the year, and Work Gadget of the Year, whilst HTC Hero took the dual accolades of Phone of the Year and Gadget of the year.

For a breakdown of all the winners take a look at the T3 site.

It was also great to see Stephen Fry pick up an award for Gadget Personality of the Year. Mr Fry can now boast over 800,000 followers on Twitter and has been instrumental in bringing the application into the mainstream. In his VT acceptance speech he described his love of gadgets as “playing with toys, essentially” – something any gadget lover can relate to.

Photos from the evening can be found on our Flickr – looking forward to next year!
