3 Skypephone promotes carrier interest in VoIP
This heightened interest in VoIP from the mobile sector has been reported by Challenger Mobile, holders of a turnkey, white-label VoIP platform. They have linked this up-turn to the launch of the 3 Skypephone, as wireless carriers and service providers scramble to cover themselves in the light of a potential shift within the sector due to the advent of free VoIP calls.
Marketwire carry the story, and what is most interesting are the quotes taken from Challenger Mobile CEO, Christina Sundman. Realising that “the demand for mobile Internet calls is a reality that no serious operator can ignore any longer,” she goes on to describe the fervour of interest that was evident when the 3 Skypephone landed in the public domain. “Virtually every operator recognizes that mobile VoIP is a key offering they must embrace to remain competitive in the mobile marketplace at large, and the 3 Skype partnership has just heightened that awareness.”
Is this the first moves of an industry set for a significant change? Let us know what you think.
