How to summarise Dale Lane’s second post about the 3 Skypephone? Well, in essence it too is a summary of all things he has found about the device and packed with both glowing criticism, and constructive criticism too.
Indeed, amongst his well considered, and expertly measured work, Dale not only praises the very affordable cost of this device “the 3 Skypephone takes something that you could only really do on expensive and complex high-end smartphones, makes a few small improvements and makes it available on a phone that costs about £50”, but also the task switching bar.
Coupled with that, Dale is particular pleased with the fact that “with the 3 Skypephone, you can leave your phone on but set your status to ‘Away’, ‘Busy’, ‘Do not disturb’ etc.”, but is less happy about delays in using the VOIP service and the slight problem of the phone rebooting itself now and then.
However, his real concern comes with the logistical issue of ensuring all your friends get with this leap forward in mobil technology. After all, as he points out “If you could convince all your friends to get one of these, it’d be fantastic” but can you be sure that they will? As he admits of his own criticism “It’s not fair – but it’s not enough for something new to just be an impressive service.”
Food for thought indeed. Although I know what all my friends will be getting for Christmas!
